Panel Borders: Toys and Games, airing today on ResonanceFM, offers a pair of interviews looking at the connections between toys, games and comics.
Alex Fitch talks to artists Karen Rubins and Bob Molesworth about their work. Karen discusses her new comic art card game, Comic Turns (plying for deserved backing on Kickstarter now), which allows the player to create their own sequential art stories, and her strip “Tales to Give You the Shivers” in The Phoenix.
Karen is a comics creator and illustrator living and working in London, UK. She’s been making comics since the beginning of the century, and enjoys collaborative storytelling in all its forms. As well as writing and drawing, she runs workshops, clubs and courses for all ages.
In an interview recorded at Cartoon County, Brighton, Bob talks about drawing Lego Star Wars, small press titles such as Dino Corps, and creating a cyberpunk adult colouring book called Part Robot.
Bob Molesworth got his first comic job illustrating Star Wars Clone Wars comics for Titan UK. He then went on to work on Titan’s Star Wars comic followed by Star Wars Rebels and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Panini. (He says he doesn’t really know how this happened, but is very happy that it did).
He is also the artist and co-creator of the graphic novels Dinocorps and Endangered Weapon B which were hugely fun to make and hopes that they are just as much fun to read.
