British independent publisher Avery Hill Publishing have released a “first look” at some of their graphic novels, out later this year.
Alone in Space – A Collection by Tillie Walden, out in June in the UK and July in the United States, is a collection of Tillie’s three long form comics with Avery Hill, “I Love This Part“, “The End Of Summer” and “A City Inside“.

It will also feature early sketches, short comics for magazines and webcomics such as What It’s Like To Be Gay In An All-Girls Middle School, that shot her to fame on both sides of the Atlantic and have never been collected before.

Quiet Thoughts by Karen Shangguan, out in August, is a collection of sketches and poetry comics from Vancouver artist

Lights! Planets! People! by Lizzy Stewart and Molly Naylor, to be released in September, is an adaptation of Molly Naylor’s play about a renowned scientist who is undergoing catastrophes in her work and personal life.
Molly Naylor is an award-winning writer, performer and director and creator of Sky One comedy, After Hours. Lizzy Stewart is an award-winning artist and writer, and creator of Walking Distance. which came out from Avery Hill in 2019.

Methods of Dyeing by B. Mure, out in October, is a new book in the quiet, fantastical Ismyre series by Bristol-based creator B. Mure, who continues to expand the Ismyre universe, this time with a detective story.

Jinx Freeze by Lord Hurk, also out in October, sees Down on the Riviera, a famous sculpture, stolen and the local police force are out of their depth. Can a vast cast of local heroes, such as ‘King Gianthead Fighter Policeman O.X.’ or ‘Danny Kildare the Space Priest’, help solve the crime or will the thieves get away with their prize?
Told through the twisted creative lens of Hurk, Jinx Freeze is a heist story unlike any you’ve read before!

Finally, Sour Pickles by Manchester-based artist Clio Isadora, hitting bookshelves in November, is a semi-autobiographical comic about being bi-racial and working class whilst struggling to finish the final year at a prestigious London art school.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
