Bundle of Holding, a company that presents time-limited collections of tabletop roleplaying games, or books by RPG designers, as DRM-free ebooks, is running an offer to help support award-winning games publisher Jonathan Thompson, the owner of Battlefield Press after an arsonist robbed and set fire to his Louisiana home, which has delayed production on the company’s 40th Anniversary Spacecraft 2000 to 2100 AD book reprint.
In August, Battlefield Press owner Jonathan Thompson and his family were on their way home from Gen Con when a burglar robbed their home in Shreveport, Louisiana and then set the house on fire.
“The fire destroyed collectibles, about a third of my gaming collection, general reference books, and my work computers,” says Jonathan. “We have insurance, but there is a $2,500 deductible, and we will be displaced to a hotel for at least the next 5-6 months.”
The attack was all the worse because the perpetrator was someone Jonathan knew, who used the fire to try to cover up the theft but they also killed two household pets in the process, one a cat Jonathan’s son had raised from a kitten.
Battlefield Press is the award-winning publisher of some popular alternate histories, such as Gaslight Victorian Fantasy and Kaiser’s Gate. In addition. they’re the publisher of the ENnie Award Winning Eldritch Skies. Often known for their alternate histories, they’re not afraid of publishing whatever suits their fancy, and that includes a successfully crowdfunded 40th Anniversary, full colour reprint of Spacecraft 2000 to 2100 AD, the “Terran Trade Authority Handbook” by Stewart Cowley, which we trailed here on downthetubes. Production on the new edition has, inevitably, been put back as a result of this act.
To help get Jonathan back on his feet, Bag of Holding’s special Savage Battlefield Bundle offer presents tabletop roleplaying game campaign settings published by Battlefield Press for Pinnacle Entertainment’s fast-furious-fun Savage Worlds Deluxe Edition RPG. (And one for the new Savage Worlds Adventure Edition, too.) The offer includes the opportunity for gamers to get a Victorian and World War One fantasy, Cthulhoid space opera, Robin Hood adventure, and more for a bargain price.
Ordinarily, BOH donate 10% of the revenue from an offer to a charity. For this Savage Battlefield Bundle, they’re adding the charity portion to the publisher share, to help Jonathan cope with disaster.
