Breakdown Press gear up for first Safari Festival in London

Breakdown Press, a London-based comics publisher, have organised a new, free Safari Festival. The event will take place Saturday 30th August at Studio 2, the new Shoreditch gallery space of London-based creative agency, Protein.

Primarily focused on comics, the organisers hop the Festival will enable attendees to experience the best of UK comics’ “avant-garde”. The artists exhibiting have been selected for their innovative, fearless, diverse approaches to making comics; approaches to cartooning that Safari intends to champion.

Exhibitors include:

Breakdown Press – comprising Simon Hacking, Tom Oldham and Josh Palmano, with the invaluable assistance of Joe Kessler – is dedicated to printing and promoting the very best in comics art, whether the cutting edge work of new cartoonists or undiscovered classics of the past.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Star Trek Explorer (previously known as Star Trek Magazine) and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War and “Dan Dare”. He’s the writer of "Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies" for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
