Here’s a list of comics – both US and UK releases – on sale in specialist UK comic shops from today, Wednesday 22nd October 2014, courtesy of First Age Comics, Lancaster. We’ve picked out the titles published by British publishers in bold below, or titles with a British connection we’re aware of.
Talking of First Age, we can’t not mention that Batman and Doctor Who artist Dave Taylor will be in store on Saturday 1st November, signing copies of the newly-released Twelfth Doctor #1 from Titan Comics between 12 noon and 1.00pm. (I’ll be lurking there, too, lurking in the background). This is the same day as the shop’s annual Hallowe’en festivities. Not only do you get to enjoy Dave’s company, but there will also be cake. The natives don’t bite. Much.
Titan Comics have a number of titles on sale this week, mostly collections of previous series but new material, too. If you didn’t read Ordinary by Rob Williams and D’Israeli in the Judge Dredd Megazine or the previously-released mini series then pick up the collection, because it’s great!
Rob and D’Israeli are doing some tie in signings in London to promote this collection, including one at Forbidden Planet tomorrow night and another at GOSH on Saturday.
Also on release is 13 Coins #1 written by Martin Brennan and Michael B. Jackson and drawn by Simon Bisley. John Pozner always knew he was special; that his athletic abilities and fighting skills were far from human. But with a broken childhood, drug addictions, and a criminal record on his plate, he’s already fought more than his share of battles for one lifetime.
Or so he hoped…
Woken to his true angelic nature, John quickly finds himself at the centre of an apocalyptic war – one that could spell the end of existence as we know it – with no choice but to train in order to confront the holy destiny he never asked for.
But with scheming politicians, demonic factions and forces older than time itself vying against him, it looks like this ‘true-blooded’ bruiser has his work cut out for him!
Wrapped in a dynamic digital cover from seasoned CG-artist and veteran art droid Alex Ronald, 2000AD Prog 1904 (also on sale in newsagents and digitally) sees Judge Dredd bringing Law and order back to out-of-control Block, Gramercy Heights. The issue features new epeisodes of “Judge Dredd”, “Stickleback: The Thrupenny Opera”, “Greysuit; Prince of Darkness”, “Ichabod Azrael: One Last Bullet” and “Kingdom: Aux Drift”.
Keep your circuits tuned for the return of the 2000AD Winter Special (2014), featuring Thrills from some of the comic’s most gifted droids – familiar masters and brand-new talents.
Don’t forget that along with 2000AD, The Beano is also on sale every week in newsagents along with a host of other comics (though never enough, these days), including the latest issues of Commando, Doctor Who Adventures, TOXIC, VIZ, Doctor Who Magazine and Panini’s Marvel US comics.
