Cartoonist Mark Stafford signing tonight at Jam Bookshop

Comic artist Mark Stafford will be signing copies of his new book, Salmonella Smorgasbord, at the Jam Bookshop in Hackney later today (Thursday 31st August 2023 at 6.30pm) to kick off his exhibition at the London store.

Mark is a cartoonist/illustrator, mainly working in the field of comics and graphic novels (check out Lip Hook and The Man Who Laughs from Self Made Hero, Cherubs! from Dark Horse) but he’s also created theatre and event posters, beer labels, record covers, t-shirts and at least one mural.

“I’m very proud to hold this show as Mark is an old friend, comic-making buddy and fave illustrator of mine,” says shop owner and fellow artist David Ziggy Greene, “because he’s so annoyingly good.

“Join us and lather your eyes with his epic new book Salmonella Smorgasbord and huge beautiful original drawings all over the gallery walls.”

Mark’s art will be up in the gallery until 17th September 2023. If you can, get along to see it and have a chat!

John Freeman

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.

Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.

He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
