2019 marks the 40th Anniversary of the TV series Worzel Gummidge starring Jon Pertwee as the scarecrow scallywag, and the centenary of the much-loved Jon Pertwee himself. To celebrate, Ten Acre Films took a trip to the countryside with some old friends, to relive those Scatterbrook Days, a charming not for profit film we think is well worth a few minutes of your time…
Written and directed by Stuart Manning, this short film starring Mike Berry, Jeremy Austin, Betty Woodhouse and Wayne Norman, centres a bored young girl on a trip to the country {“It smells!”) by father and grandfather, and, perhaps, discovering just why they made the trip… and some of the magic that inspired it.
The film’s release comes ahead of the BBC revival of Worzel Gummidge starring Mackenzie Crook, in two hour long films inspired by the classic books of Barbara Euphan Todd – and the impending release of a new edition of The Worzel Book by Stuart Manning from MIWK Publishing.
This new edition of the definitive guide to Worzel Gummidge features over 30 pages of extra content, including new interviews and facts, an all-new chapter about the 1990s Worzel animation project featuring script summaries, storyboards and pre-production art, plus dozens of new photos in black and white and colour.
All pre-orders of The Worzel Book (40th Anniversary Edition) will come with a very special signed bonus, to be announced shortly.
(If you bought the original edition, released in 2016, hold onto your copies, as the inside cover Polaroid gallery will not be carried across to the new edition. “We truly appreciate everyone who purchased and supported the original book and wanted to do something to make sure that the first version remains special and unique,” say the publishers).
