US independent publisher Smallbug Press has announced the release of Lauren Ipsum Under Cover by Charles Brubaker. The 130-page black-and-white paperback contains over 200 “Lauren Ipsum” comic strips, as well as bonus illustrations featuring the characters.
The comic stars a rabbit named Lauren, who works as a professional librarian and part-time writer. Along with Dewey DeSmall, a fox, and Gutenberg, a cat,, she runs a library in the all-animal city of St. Paws.
“Lauren Ipsum” first appeared online on 31st October 2022, and has since gained a dedicated following. The Weakley County Press started running the strip on 15th November of the same year.
Originally from Japan, Charles Brubaker, who lives in Martin, Tennessee, rose to prominence in the cartoon circle at early age, having assisted historians on animation books while he was still a teenager. In college, he started drawing comics for the student-run paper, as well as the local city paper. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a BFA in Graphic Design in 2012.
Brubaker contributes to MAD Magazine and SpongeBob Comics, draws comics “Ask a Cat” and “The Fuzzy Princess”, and writes about animation history.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
