Belgian illustrator Charlotte Dumortier has been announced as the East London Comic Art Festival’s artist in residence 2018.

ELCAF – London’s biggest annual festival dedicated to showcasing the best in comics, illustration, sequential art, and storytelling – returns 22nd – 24th June 2018 and is by far one of the most popular British comic events of the year in the capital.

Based in Antwerp, Charlotte’s work is characterised by bright colours and bold shapes. As well as being an illustrator, she also works as a motion graphics animator. Charlotte makes comics for zines and anthologies and her “first real comic book” is called Murphy’s Miserable Space Adventures and is published by Oogachtend.

She also makes mini comics and zines under the moniker yum yum zines with her friend Shamisa Debroey who will also be joining ELCAF 2018.

Charlotte’s ELCAF 2018 poster will be available in June as a limited edition screen-print.

Founded by independent publisher Nobrow in 2012, ELCAF’s aim is to introduce and celebrate both small press publications and the dynamic community of individual artists and collectives that are pushing the boundaries of comics and illustration to a growing public.

There has been an exciting growth within comics and narrative illustration – mediums which have moved from the peripheries into the mainstream focus.

In 2018 ELCAF will be celebrating its seventh edition in June with its largest programme of talks, workshops, exhibitions, screenings, and masterclasses, carefully curated and delivered by a host of national and international artists, writers and illustrators.
