Check out the latest COMICS! The Magazine

Launched earlier this year, the latest issue of the US-based COMICS! The Magazine, Issue 4, is available now, focusing on DC Comics, publishers of Supergirl – and available with two covers.

Distributed through Local Comic Shops, COMICS! The Magazine is pitched as a gateway to the world of comics, whether you’re into the MCU, James Gunn’s favourites, crowdfunded gems, or creators like Telgemeier and Pilkey. The $2.99 title celebrates discovery, creativity, and community.

Published by comics industry consultant and entrepreneur Adam Freeman (no relation – but uncanny, or what?), the title is edited by Joe Keatinge, a comics writer and editor known for Shutter, Evolution, Glory, and co-editing Image’s Popgun anthology. He’s written for Marvel, DC, and Image, and is currently the editor of The Future Is from REKAH Publishing.

Also on the team is artist Rico Renzi, known for his bold palettes on Spider-Gwen, Squirrel Girl and GRIM; Megan Marsden, a comic book, graphic novel, and pop-culture marketing & sales specialist, with Prana: Direct Market Solutions; and Brian Garside, Director of Digital, the Superhero in Residence at Manage Comics.

In Issue Four, the focus is firmly on DC Comics, the editorial team seeing the veteran US publisher celebrating a new golden era, in both quality and sales, initially built on their Absolute line, breaking decades-long sales records and frequently taking the Number One Publisher spot in market share reports, but noting that “with Next Level, Vertigo, and beyond, the glory is line wide”.

The issue features two of the biggest characters in the DC Roster, both with contemporary and historical classics: What makes Supergirl and Lobo characters worth watching? And asks how do they represent the contemporary?

Plus, the spotlight is turned on DC’s Vertigo line, noting their recent announcement of the expanded slate, including the return of 100 Bullets and new entries, including, but not limited to, Darick Robertson’s first-new Vertigo title in years on Necretaceous with Tom Taylor, and Mario Tamaki and Rosemary Valero O’Connell’s The Crying Doll, Simon Spurrier and Aaron Campbell’s A Walking Shadow, and much, much more. COMICS! The Magazine takes a peek at how they built it and what’s to come.

Issue 5 is on sale from 1st July.
