Comic-Con spotlights Star Trek, pays tribute to Dave Taylor

The official San Diego Comic-Con Souvenir Book 2026, commemorating this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, taking place this weekend, spotlights Star Trek, and includes a tribute to the late Dave Taylor, written by David Scroggy.

2026’s exclusive content, available to download here as a PDF, focuses on a number of anniversary celebrations. Rich Handley provides an entertaining guide to the history of Star Trek in its 60th Year, while Paul Levitz offers a look back at the very first DC Marvel Comics crossover, Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-man, accompanied by an interview with writer Gerry Conway who has, sadly, passed. Steven Thompson celebrates 50 Years of Fantagraphics, publishers of the long-running Comics Journal, Love and Rockets and more.

Plus, longtime fan Joe Siclari marks 100 years of Amazing Stories with a fascinating guide to the SF magazine, and Mark Arnold wishes a happy 75th birthday to America’s Dennis the Menace; the character created by Hank Ketcham, not the BEANO character, which, unfortunately, captioning of imagery suggests, bizarrely, that they are one on the same, which I’m sure was not the article author’s intent as an expert on Dennis the Menace, author of the authoritative Pocket Full of Dennis the Menace, back in 2017.

Marvel’s X- Men are also in the spotlight, too, marking Ultimate X-Men #1, written by Mark Millar, published25 years ago.

The Souvenir Book also includes a “Yearbook” section, featuring bios and photos of all of Comic-Con 2026’s Special Guests, a look back at 2025’s awards, and a special “In Memoriam” section, with tributes to, among others, Sal Buscema, Gerry Conway, Sam Kieth, Drew Struzan and Dave Taylor.

(It was a pleasant a surprise to see a cropped photo I took at a Lancaster Comic Day 2015 featured, albeit credited to someone else entirely, but since this is Dave, and probably the closest I’ll ever get to being part of SDCC, which I’ve never attended, I’ll take it!)
