Comics Laureate Stephen L. Holland will be taking part in just one of several events forming part of the Festival of Libraries next week, at an in-person event at Altrincham Library on Friday 11th June 2021.
At this free event, Stephen will introduce you to the misunderstood medium of comics, revealing to those unfamiliar just how it’s thousands of years older than you think, a great deal craftier, and you’re already reading them – whether you know it or not!
An adult entertainment medium in its own right, he feels, rightly, we think, that comics are also the perfect lure for reluctant readers and those with dyslexia.
Stephen is owner of the independent comics shop Page 45, and a fervent comics advocate, freelance artist and tutor, and the current UK Comics Laureate 2021 – 2023. You can find out more about his work promoting comics here on the Lakes International Comic Art Festival web site.
Manchester City of Literature’s inaugural Festival of Libraries is a brand-new county-wide celebration of Greater Manchester’s 133 libraries, taking place from Wednesday 9th to Sunday 13th June, 2021. The festival, which is supported by Arts Council England, will feature a vibrant programme, some events also available online, that highlights the library network’s full offer, across wellbeing, culture and creativity, digital and information, and, of course, reading.
The Festival of Libraries programme, which includes appearances by both authors and artists, will take place in internationally renowned institutions from Manchester’s rich tapestry of heritage libraries, including Central Library, with its impressive status as the busiest public library in the country, in addition to Chetham’s, The Portico, and the John Rylands Research Institute and Library. Also featured will be Greater Manchester’s equally important and vital local libraries that deliver much needed support and services to their communities.
