A new game based on The Expanse SF novel series and spinoff TV show is on its way for various platforms. In The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a third-person Action RPG, you’re no hero — just a mercenary caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, trying to hold your crew together and keep the ship up and running. Your choices will shape your story.
The game has been developed by Owlcat Games, creators of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. In an interview with Cohh Carnage, while understandably tight lipped about certain elements of the game, Alexander Mishulin, Owlcat’s Creative Director, says the game, which underwent a full year of prototyping, takes place alongside the early The Expanse novels, and the TV series first season. He also emphasised that the game will reflect the show’s interest in the personalities impacted by events (“The Expanse is all about people,” he feels).
The game, which will see appearances from some of the stars from the TV show, is available for preorder now.
It’s an interesting twist to the franchise, which has spun off from amazing novels to the TV series and comics. The saga reportedly first started as co-author Ty Franck‘s premise for an MMORPG. He then ran it as a TTRPG, before teaming up with Daniel Abraham to write the novels, under the joint pen name James S. A. Corey.
(Incidentally, if you’ve read and enjoyed The Expanse, you should definitely start on The Captive’s War trilogy: the brilliant The Mercy of the Gods was released last year).

In The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a story-driven sci-fi Action RPG, you play as a Pinkwater Security mercenary whose brief shore leave on the asteroid Eros spirals out of control. Trapped in a deadly lockdown and drawn into a solar system-wide conspiracy far beyond your control, you’ll have to adapt, survive, taking command of the most advanced ship in the whole of the solar system.
Create and customise your own captain — Earther, Martian, or Belter — and lead a crew of highly-skilled specialists as you face off against escalating threats, political pressure, and a relentless enemy that will stop at nothing to see you dead. In a solar system held together by fragile alliances, every decision leaves its mark.
