As we reported earlier this week, DC Thomson have just released their Halloween Commando set – full details here. But we’ve received intel their previous Commando 6000th issue set sold out completely – so the publisher has made the unusual decision to offer limited stock through their official website, for any war comics fans who may have missed out on the celebratory issues. Don’t miss out on your piece of the history!
A comic over sixty-five years in the making. Commando Comics released its 6000th issue, No. 6000, “Sweet Revenge” earlier this month – full set details here – making the title the longest-running British war comic ever.

The landmark issue, featuring a cover by Keith Burns and internal art by Esteve Polls, was written by the all-star cast behind the immensely popular (and funny) podcast We Have Ways of Making You Talk, historian James Holland and comedian Al Murray – with a story in the classic Commando fashion that spans the beaches of Dunkirk all the way to the D-Day landings.
Commando was first published in 1961, launching onto the scene with an iconic 63 pages of black-and-white artwork wrapped in an explosive full-colour cover with an unmissable Commando dagger emblazoned on it.

“The comic celebrated our 60th anniversary in 2021, and we’ve come a long way since 1961’s Issue No. 1 ‘Walk – OR DIE!’,” notes Commando sub editor Leah Barton, “with our pages featuring everything from the World Wars to zombies, dragons, aliens, Vikings and more!”
The SOLD OUT set is available on the DC Thomson Shop website here: Commando Collection – issues 5999-6002 | Celebrate Commando Comics 6000th issue
