Commandos battle aliens in all-new adventure, on sale today

We’ve seen Commandos battle Zombies in recent years in DC Thomson’s long-running pocket war digest, so it’s not surprising a team is now being pitted against an extraterrestrial threat in an all-new adventure this week from Dominic Teague and Alejandro Garcia Mangana.

This week’s Commando set includes a nail-biting battle between Commandos and a group of alien invaders, as well as a visit from an old comrade for Private Jack Dawson, forcing him to face his wartime past.

I think many Commando readers will enjoy “Commandos vs. Aliens“: Mangana’s art is top notch and Dominic Teague certainly has fun with this recce into science fiction, the fact that the story is set around “Port Wyndham”, and a mock exercise is ordered by “Colonel Kneale” are, surely, a clues to how much fun he’s had with the tale. There plenty of nods to various SF stories, shows and tropes to savour, too!

Issues 5959 – 5962 are on sale today in all good newsagents, Thursday 21st May 2026.

Plus, good news: after a long absence, the digital editions of Commando will soon be available from Amazon again, increasing availability beyond the UK. Returning with the recently-released Commando 5956 (Gold): The Knife (Affiliate Link), this latest set will be offered there, too. The Commando team tell us the title will continue to be distributed digitally on Magzter, too.

Plus, if you haven’t grabbed a copy already, a reminder DC Thomson’s Commando Presents: Sergeant Rayker is out in the wild – and well worth tracking down. Mike Dorey’s already impressive looks great in this larger size, chunky 204-page volume, and the selected reprints of Rayker stories from Warlord afford a great reminder of how this strip became one of the weekly comic’s standout series. It’s available in many TG Jones stores alongside Commando, a reminder of how important the chain is getting special issues out to potential readers, or you can buy it online, direct from DC Thomson or AmazonUK (Affiliate Link)

Sergeant Rayker Volume One (DC Thomson, 2026) - Cover

Sergeant Moses Rayker – one of DC Thomson’s most unforgettable creations – returns in this explosive graphic novel collection. First introduced in Warlord in 1979, Rayker became a breakout favourite thanks to his fierce moral code and refusal to tolerate prejudice from either Axis or Allied forces. His adventures ran through weekly issues, annuals and specials until 1984… and then the legend roared back in 2025 in Commando, courtesy of writer Dominic Teague and artist Mike Dorey, whose incredible line work helped make Rayker so memorable originally.

Now, for the first time, Rayker’s first two rebooted Commando stories are blown up to full graphic novel size, presented with dynamic artwork that showcases every punch, clash and narrow escape.
