The latest episode of the always ace Doctor Who: Panel to Panel podcast, hosted by Jeremy Bement, features an interview with artists Christopher Jones and Matthew Dow Smith, talking about Once Upon a Time Lord, the original graphic novel by writer Dan Slott, coming soon from Titan Comics.

Christopher Jones is a Minnesota-based illustrator and comic book artist who’s worked for a wide range of comic book publishers including DC, Marvel, Titan, Slave Labor Graphics, Image, Malibu, Caliber, and more.
Alongside his Doctor Who work, he was the regular series artist on Young Justice, based on the popular Cartoon Network animated TV series. He also contributed to DC’s popular Batman ’66 title, based on the 1960’s Batman TV Series with Adam West, written by Jeff Parker.
Christopher’s other work for DC Comics includes Batman & Robin, Day of Judgment and the cult series Young Heroes in Love. He’s also done extensive work for DC’s Licensing department, providing everything from promotional artwork to character turns for action figure design, in styles ranging from a mainstream superhero style to matching the animation style of several different TV shows.
Matthew Dow Smith has been working in comics for over 25 years, for American publishers DC and Marvel, Dark Horse and IDW Publishing, but when the Covid-19 crisis shut down the industry, he started doing his own comic book stories, and posting them for people to read for free on social media.
A series of autobiographical short stories came first, and then a serialised comic called “Johnny Chaos”, which he’s continuing on Patreon.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
