Cosmic cartoonist Lew Stringer, a much appreciated supporter of downthetubes, who recently celebrated the 45th anniversary of his bumbling superhero, Brickman, has some more original art up for sale on eBay.

Doctor Who fans are already vying for the art for his “Daft Dimension” strip celebrating the character’s 60th anniversary last year. The strip featured in Doctor Who Magazine Issue 597, and not only does it feature fourteen Doctors – the Daleks steal the show!
Also on offer, alongside copies of some of Lew’s ace independent comics, is his “MEGABRAIN” original artwork from the back cover of Combat Colin No. 5. Bids start at £40 or you can Buy It Now for £60. A copy of the actual comic it appeared in is included in the lot.
But there are some artwork treats for sale from his earlier days as one of Britain’s most in demand comic cartoonists, too: a two page “Captain Wally / Snail Man”crossover from 1985 from Marvel UK’s Spider-Man comic, and an anarchic full colour “Tom Thug” page for an issue Buster, cover dated 4th September 1993.
Lew Stringer is a writer and artist of humour comics and has been freelancing in the UK comics industry for over 40 years. His credits involve work for a range of age groups including Combat Colin for Marvel UK, a character he now owns outright, “Tom Thug” for Fleetway, “The Pathetic Sharks” for Viz, “Team Toxic” for Toxic Magazine and many more. He’s been published in The Dandy, Oink!, Buster, Sonic the Comic, and numerous other titles.
Lew also had a lifelong interest in the history of British comics and has written articles for the BBC website, Comics World magazine and others. He currently creates the wonderful “The Daft Dimension” for Doctor Who Magazine, and “Sgt Shouty” for The77.
He recently the 45th anniversary of the debut of his dozy superhero Brickman, November 1979, who first appeared as “Brick-Person” in the third issue of Lew’s comic fanzine, After Image. Since then, “Brickman and Trowel”, have featured in numerous independent comics, on both sides of the Atlantic.
The good news for fans – and there are plenty of them! – is that Lew’s currently creating a brand new series of mini-strips, that will appear in a new British comic set to debut in 2025. Can’t wait!
Oh, and good news for Combat Colin fans, too! Combat Colin No. 6, collecting the 1990s stories from The Transformers and featuring some of the stories that followed, plus bonus features, will be released as a big final issue in the series next year. Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
