
Issue one of DC Thomson’s new “This Is” magazine
(UPDATED 29th September): Launching in October and featuring different content each month, This Is is a series of magazines designed to cover topics that are trending and popular with kids right now.

Issue One is This Is Halloween, a spook-tacular magazine packed full of everything kids need to get ready for Halloween. Inside you’ll find monstrous makes, creepy comics, foul facts and heaps of games, quizzes, puzzles and jokes!
Editor Elliot George (also editor of Epic) told downthetubes This Is Halloween was put together by a mixed team, who work across a number of titles including Epic, 110% Gaming, Shout and Beano. The comic strips were written in-house by the magazine editorial team and were drawn by Alan Ryan and additional feature illustrations were drawn by Laura Howell. The cover images were sourced by the title’s design team.
This Is Halloween comes complete with four free gifts that will horror-ify your costume!

Egmont have successfully published a similar title, All About, while Titan also utilised a similar format for their Totally… magazine.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
