District 14 by Romuald Reutimann

Romuald Reutimann, the award-winning French artist of the anthropomorphic noir District 14, will be making his first British convention appearance at Lakes International Comic Art Festival next month, thanks to international graphic novel publisher, Humanoids, Inc.

Cherbourg-based comics artist Romuald studied art at Angoulême and Angers. He has drawn several series including Ulice Rabbit (written by Nathalie Omond). District 14 (written by Pierre Gabus) won the Best Series Award at Angoulême 2012 and has been collected into two volumes, and a spin-off graphic novel, The Fantastic Voyage of Lady Rozenbilt, all of which were published by Humanoids in the UK earlier this year. He has also contributed to Humanoids’ Lucha Libre series.

Romuald will be signing and sketching throughout the weekend at the Humanoids stand in the Comic Clock Tower and will be taking part in the live drawing event, In A World Of Their Own, along with Bone artist Jeff Smith on Sunday 19th October at 16:00.

Humanoids’ UK liaison Tim Pilcher will be presenting Mœbius and More: 40 years of The Humanoids, on Saturday 18th October, to celebrate the company’s 40th anniversary.

Barbarella - Collector's Edition

There will be an opportunity for old and new fans alike to pick up all the very latest releases at the Festival, including: Before Incal by Jodorowsky & Zoran Janjetov, Kelly Sue DeConnick’s new adaptation of Jean-Claude Forest’s Barbarella and Igor Baranko’s impressive Shamanism.

Throughout the weekend there’s a special offer, “Buy any book; get a second one half price” (a 50% deduction will be made on the lowest value item) on selected titles. Plus, a chance to win an out of print, limited, slipcase edition of Alexandro Jodorowsky, Jose Ladrönn & Mœbius’s Final Incal, signed by Jodorowsky himself.

Launched under the French name of Les Humanoïdes Associés in Paris in December 1974, Humanoids Inc. published the magazine Métal Hurlant. The title’s numerous foreign editions (including the American, Heavy Metal) revolutionized the world of comics and pop culture forever. Humanoids is now one of the world’s most successful international graphic novel publishers, and the only European one to have successfully established itself in the US and UK. The company relocated its French headquarters to Los Angeles, California in 2013 and has just opened a branch in Tokyo. Numerous Humanoids titles are currently being adapted for the big screen. The group celebrates its 40th anniversary in December 2014 and has offices in Paris, Los Angeles, London and Tokyo – and they have an impressive range of new titles on the way in 2015.
