With Christmas just around the corner, Levenshulme’s very own ‘Artist in Residence’ – Doctor Who, Brenda and Effie and Iris Widthyme author Paul Magrs – has turned his daily obsession of painting a different scene of village life into a unique gift by creating the exclusive, limited edition Lovely Levy Colouring Book, which will be launched at this year’s Levenshulme Festival.
The local artist and accomplished writer has been painting a different scene from the village every day since January 2015 and wanted to do something to celebrate his “Year of Levy Art”.
When asked about the book Paul explained “Colouring Books for adults and children are everywhere at the moment, but nowhere is there one as unique as this. It features my street scenes of Levenshulme, local landmarks and hidden treasures. Everything from the Secret Lake and the weekly Saturday market to the inside of Levy baths. You can paint your neighbourhood just the way you want it – and you don’t even have to stay inside the lines.”
“Chorlton may have its own Poet Laureate in Dame Carol Ann Duffy, but Levenshulme is vying to replace it as the Creative capital of Manchester’s suburbs with its own Artist in Residence with Paul Magrs,” says Lawrence Hennigan the President of the Levenshulme Festival. “He has really brought the village to life with his drawings which bring a smile to your face, we get visitors from all over the world coming into Fred’s to view his work. It’s great to see Levenshulme leading the way by coming up with its own colouring book.”
Paul will be launching his colouring book and his very popular prints and seaso9nal cards at a special Pop Up shop and exhibition of his work at Freds Ale House and Art Gallery in Levenshulme on Saturday 7th November from 12 noon until 4.00pm.
