By now you’ve already heard all about London’s Orbital Comics amazing exhibition featuring previously unseen photographs of Sylvester McCoy’s beloved companion, Sophie Aldred aka ‘Ace’ … But if you haven’t, then you only have a few days left to get along and see it.
Timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, the show features original images and negatives that were unearthed by photographer Steve Cook after years of being presumed lost (not unlike the rumours of missing episodes being found).
Steve was the designer on Doctor Who Magazine back when I joined Marvel UK, and many of you will recognise him for his work on 2000AD. He’s a superb photographer, whose work regularly featured in DWM after he went freelance, as you’ll discover if head over to his Secret Oranges blog.
To celebrate the success of the exhibition, Sophie and friends will be back at Orbital for an extra special signing on Saturday 28th September from 6-7pm. If you missed her last time (or even if you didn’t), be sure you make it down to celebrate with them and check out the show one last time!
The signing will be followed by an exhibition closing celebration.
It’s times like this when I wished I was back in London: I’d loved to have seen this, but will have to settle for Steve’s great pictures from the launch event (graced with an appearance by the one and only Sylvester McCoy himself) and this video from the event.
