This Saturday, residents of Dunfermline, Scotland, can enjoy the free Dunfermline Mini-Con, featuring a cracking line up of comic creators, comic sellers, cosplay and more, at Kingsgate Shopping Centre.
Comic writers and artists will be exhibiting, and selling, their comics and artwork at the event, and vendors will be there too, with new and preowned graphic novels and comics, comic artwork, and related products such as merchandise and toys.
Organised by comic creator Colin Maxwell (writer on Commando and more) Special comic guests include Special comic guests include Scottish comic creators Jim Alexander (Writer, creator of Savant and GoodCopBadCop, John Bruce of the The Brewgooders – The Beer and Comic Podcast, who will have copies of The Legend of Memorania Issue 1, from Emerald Angel Comics, for sale; Simon Forrester, of Engine 1991 Creations, creator of the Caged Rats comic series; Alan Henderson (creator of the wonderful The Penned Guin), John Lees (writer), Barry Lumsden, founder of Iron Dynasty Comics, Tanya Roberts (artist), and Stephen White (writer and artist), and look out for Stephen Hume of the Fleetway Picture Library Collectors Club, too!
You can also expect to see costumed characters courtesy of the charity C.H.A.S. (grab a photo with your favourite character and support this wonderful charity), and adisplay of replica TV and Movie props – weapons, costumes and robots.
An exhibition of comic artwork from “The Dunfermline Story”, a book released this year featuring stories from Dunfermline’s 1000 years of history, will also be on display. (We featured an item on this fantastic project here).
For the first time ever, Simon Forrester, of Engine 1991 Creations, creator of the Caged Rats comic series will be exhibiting in his hometown, and will be selling signed copies of Caged Rats The Comic Volumes 1-3 and original horror posters.
The Kingsgate Shopping Centre is Dunfermline’s main indoor shopping mall containing shops such as Marks & Spencer, CEX, Game, Boots, HMV, Waterstones and The Entertainer.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
