May 2016 will see Enniskillen in County Fermanagh host its first festival of comics, illustration and storytelling.
The Enniskillen Comic Fest will take place in the McArthur Hall in Darling Street on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th May, with a wide range of events taking place to celebrate comic art, culture and promote sequential art and storytelling.
Guests announced so far are: Ryan Brown, Michael Carroll, Eoin Coveney, D’Israeli, Peter Doherty, Ian Edginton, Glenn Fabry, Davy Francis, Patrick Goddard, PJ Holden, Laura Howell, Clint Langley, Lew Stringer, Phil Winslade and Steve Yeowell – with more to come.
The historic market town of Enniskillen has a longstanding connection with the creative arts. Many giants of the literary and art worlds have spent time here and been inspired by beautiful County Fermanagh.
The Festival will include a variety of workshops, talks, mentoring sessions and portfolio reviews over the two days with Friday 6th seeing our schools programme being run, while Saturday 7th is a full open day for the public.
Celebrating the iconic comic 2000AD there will be top creators from the UK and Ireland who have been a part of “The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic” as well as all aspects of the comics industry.
The event will also host an auction of art – including this Judge Dredd piece by John McCrea – in aid of the Children’s Hospice at Killadeas.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
