The Beano, Marvel Comics, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and top fantasy adventure drams Game of Thrones are among the final nominees in this year’s Licensing Awards, announced this week.
Approaching 5,000 licensed products were entered into the Product Awards this year. The Judging Panel comprised of almost 100 top retail buyers, including those from Toys R Us, Tesco, M&S, Sainsbury’s, Next, The Entertainer, Waterstones, Lakeland, Asda, Mothercare, Joy, BHS, Paperchase, Paulton’s Park, Blue Inc, MiniClub and River Island.

The Retailer Award Finalists
The finalists of the Retailer Award categories were decided as a result of an online nomination process involving manufacturers, suppliers and importers of licensed products, inviting them to state which retailers have excelled in their retail delivery of licensed merchandise to the public over the last year. These results were then taken into account by a validation panel of industry experts to arrive at the final line-up.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
