Gary Spencer Millidge’s Strangehaven comic book series has been optioned for film and television by IDW Entertainment.
The company’s track record includes Wynonna Earp for the SYFY Channel, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency for BBC America, and Locke & Key for Netflix, now in its second season on the streamer.
Strangehaven is a self-published comic book series, created, written, and illustrated by Gary Spencer Millidge. Ostensibly a murder mystery set in a small, isolated village in South West England, Strangehaven fuses elements of folk horror and supernatural soap opera with off-beat humour and an impossibly idealised vision of British rural life.
The fourth volume in the Strangehaven comic book saga, Strangehaven: Destiny is currently being serialised in the British anthology Meanwhile…, published by Soaring Penguin Press.
“I’m very excited to have the team at IDW Entertainment working towards bringing Strangehaven to the screen,” says Gary.
“For those that don’t know, an option gives IDWE the exclusive right to develop Strangehaven for television, film, and other media. While this doesn’t make a Strangehaven TV show or movie a certainty, it does make it somewhat more likely. And I know that many of you reading this have been advocating for a Strangehaven adaptation since it was first published in 1995.
“I’m very excited to have the team at IDW Entertainment working towards bringing Strangehaven to the screen and I have no concerns about their commitment to the project,” he continues. “It took ten years for Locke & Key to get made into a Netflix series, including two previous pilot episodes that were both filmed and discarded. Now, Locke & Key has been renewed for a third season!“
