London’s Gosh! comic store is to host an in person estate sale of the personal book collection of Kevin O’Neill, taking place on Sunday 1st October 2023, with all proceeds to benefit his Estate.
You will need to get to this Sale in person if you’re interested to see what is on sale – there won’t be any mail order or online sales of items on offer from Kevin’s collection.
November last year saw the passing of legendary comics artist and longtime friend of Gosh!, Kevin O’Neill. Co-creator of such icons as Marshal Law, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and, of course, 2000AD’s Nemesis the Warlock, Kevin’s uncanny and angular line could birth sublime horror and delicate beauty at whim.
Kevin kindly worked with the popular shop on numerous occasions to produce exclusive bookplates and prints, and over that time became a friendly, familiar face to all of the team. (You can read their tribute to his life and work here).
A unique voice in comics, Kevin was a master draughtsman, forging a unique, inimitable style whilst drawing inspiration from a pantheon of well-regarded and lesser-known cartoonists and artists, many of whom he had extensive reference for in his impressive book collection.
On behalf of Kevin’s Estate, Gosh! will be running a sale of this personal book collection on Sunday 1st October 2023, from 10.30am – 7pm.
“Kevin’s refined taste in comics, art, and esoterica is well and truly reflected in his collection,” say the Gosh! team, “and this sale offers you an opportunity to not just own something from Kevin’s collection, but also in some measure to be educated by a master.
“From comics to biographies, penny dreadfuls to art instruction manuals, and reference books to catalogues, there is sure to be something of interest for the discerning fan of Kevin’s work and we look forward to seeing you on the day.”
The aim of this sale is to provide the best financial boon to his Estate that Gosh! can facilitate. Prices will be as marked, and quite understandably, they will not be discounting on purchases from the collection. Neither will they reserve titles, nor will there be any mail order or online sales.
There will be no original art for sale and staff are not able to provide contact details for the Estate.
