Happy Birthday to Beatrix Potter, creator of Peter Rabbit, born this day 28th July 1866.
A writer, illustrator, natural scientist, and conservationist, Beatrix Potter is best known for her children’s books featuring animals, such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit, which was her first commercially published work in 1902.

From the downthetubes archives, here’s Duncan Fegredo’s wonderful art, “Captain Peter Rabbit of The Lakes International Rescue – Beatrix Potter Reimagined”, created for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, back in 2016.

The work was one of several eye catching illustrations created to mark the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter,. Four award-winning comic artists – Duncan, Charlie Adlard, Hannah Berry and Luke McGarry – gave their time and talents to reimagine her characters and artwork, with stunning results.
The commissions were part of a project that included a Beatrix Potter Reimagined competition, supported by the University of Cumbria, which attracted entries from across the UK.
The overall winner was artist Beatriz Lostalé Seijo, for her entry “Fooled” and the runners up were Ian F, for “Tod & Brock” and Katie Watkins, for “Beatrix Potter: A Colouring Adventure”.
