We wish all downthetubes readers a very Happy New Year – and decade! Here’s to exciting times ahead for us all!
The cover of The Real Ghostbusters featured here, published by Marvel UK back in 1989, is by Dan Dare and Doctor Who artist Brian Williamson, inked by Dave Harwood. There’s no colourist credit, but it’s possibly the work of either Steve White or John Michael Burns (not to be confused with the eponymous 2000AD artist, but they are related).
The art was re-used inside to illustrate a short text story, “New Year Nuisance“, one of many tales written for the comic by me.
The issue, edited by Helen Stone, also included strips and other material by creators that also included Dan Abnett, John Carnell, John Paul Caton, Phil Elliott, Bambos Georgiou, Martin Griffiths, Dave Harwood, Andy Lanning and Steve White – most still working in comics today.
There’s also a one page comic strip ad for MUK’s first Death’s Head comic, which had only recently launched, written by an uncredited Simon Furman and drawn by Bryan Hitch.
Happy times!
