2000AD has sprung into 2026 with a big new Judge Dredd story from his co-creator, John Wagner and ace artist Mike Perkins. The ominous “Death of a Judge” begins this week, which may well be Wagner’s final time writing Dredd.
But just how big of a bang exactly is he planning for the Lawman of the Future…?
Asked by Chris Coplan over on AIPT if this was, indeed, his last Dredd adventure and why, John said: “I’m old and tired and finding the thought of coming up with a storyline I haven’t done or touched on before increasingly daunting, so I’m very pleased to be able to wake up in the morning and realize, afresh, ‘Gey! I don’t have to do anything today! Or this week, or this month.’ No deadlines, no one shouting at me for a script, no knotty plot problem to sort out, no banging my head against the wall because the damned story just won’t play ball.
“At present, I have one more script to write – the final part of “Rok the World” – and no particular intention of doing anything after that. But nothing is carved in stone.”

This collection includes the entire run of the “Legend Testers” strip from the weekly comic, Smash!, all beautifully illustrated by Spanish art superstar, Jordi Bernet. The strip ran began in Issues 9 and continued until Issue 75 (April 1966 to July 1967), with seven regular adventures published.
Jordi Bernet Cussó is a Spanish comics artist, born in Barcelona in 1944. The son of comic artist, Miguel Bernet, Jordi’s uncle, Juan Bernet Toledano, was also an illustrator, while another of his uncles, Miguel Cussó, was a writer. Jordi got his start in comics in his early teens, working on the magazine, Pepe Cola, working alongside his father.
He started working for several foreign publishers in the 1960s including some in the UK, illustrating strips in DC Thomson’s Victor and The Hornet, and Fleetway’s Smash! and Tiger.
His career took off in 1982,:when he started working on Torpedo – a strip about a gangster operating in New York during the Great Depression. It was published in several Spanish comics, including Creepy, Thriller, Comix International and Totem El Comix, before getting its own title in the early 1990s. It won the ‘Best Foreign Album Award’ in 1986 at the Angoulême Comics Festival.
In recent years, Jordi has also illustrated several issues of DC’s Jonah Hex comic.

Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine and Overkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics; and has edited several comic collections and graphic novels, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”, and Hancock: The Lad Himself, by Stephen Walsh and Keith Page.
He’s the writer of comics such as Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs”, with Dave Hailwood.
