Writer Garth Ennis and artist Keith Burns will be touching down at Forbidden Planet Liverpool on Saturday 30th May 2026 for a celebratory Johnny Red signing in the aerial ace’s hometown.
Garth and Keith recently just completed the blood-soaked adventures of British comics’ classic Scouse fighter pilot, Johnny Red. And in Johnny Red: A Couple of Heroes, published under Rebellion’s Treasury of British Comics imprint, Johnny Redburn finishes his war in Russia, after much carnage in the sky, and returns home to Lark lane in Liverpool.
Garth and Keith will be making a pilgrimage to Johnny’s Merseyside home on Saturday 30th May and signing copies of both A Couple of Heroes and Johnny’s first soviet adventure – The Hurricane – at Forbidden Planet Liverpool, 92 Bold Street, from 2pm – 3pm!

In the last year of a long and dreadful war, as vengeful Russian forces reach the German frontier, British-born fighter pilot Johnny Redburn leads Falcon Squadron in deadly strikes against the retreating Nazis.
With all his comrades gone and his lover, Nina Petrova, lost somewhere in the maelstrom, the “Red Devil” knows his own doom is only a matter of time. Maybe the next mission, or the one after that – but it’s coming.

John is the founder of downthetubes, launched in 1998. He is a comics and magazine editor, writer, and Press Officer for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He also runs Crucible Comic Press.

He’s the writer of comics such as Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs”, with Dave Hailwood.
