Marking an impressive landmark bringing over 200 hours of comics content to your ears, the latest episode of the Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast – Episode 60, no less! – brings with it a smashing interview with artist and author Kate Charlesworth, talking all about her new book Sensible Footwear, A Girls Guide. The book looks at the history of the LGBT community and the hardships (and joys) she dealt with through her own life.
Kate has previously written comic strips for the gay press as well as drawing Sally Heathcote Suffragette for Bryon and Mary Talbot.
Tom Stewart reviews The Whore Chronicles, a tale of “working girls” that tells their stories in their own words, written by Tony Esmond, featuring art by Vince Hunt, Rachael Bell, Sarah Harris, Tom Curry, Charles Raymond, Stuart Mulrain and Rik Jackson.
Meanwhile, podcast hosts Ian Loxam and Nikki Bates review The Glass Hood by Matt Garvey, a story of revenge centring on recently released super villain Victor Day, with art by Grayham Puttock and Stefano Pavan – and Cloud Hotel by LA Times Book Prize finalist Julian Hanshaw.
Mike Williams and Pete Taylor are back, joining forces for a two hour extravaganza all about the events at this year’s Festival. In particular, they look at gothic comics, zombie movies, banned/censored comics, hell themed comics and Belgian comics. This full length audio guide to this year’s Festival highlights continues in the next Podcast.
