With less than two months to go, things are really gathering pace and tickets for the 2014 Lakes International Comic Art Festival are already selling fast – with some events selling much faster than others.
The run on tickets might of course have something to do to with the organisers are currently offering 10% off all tickets. Simply enter the code COMIC14 when prompted at the checkout on Kendal’s Brewery Arts Centre web site, where many of the events are taking place.
You’ll have to hurry, though, as this promotion ends on Sunday 31st August.
The Lakes International Comic Art Festival (18th – 20th October 2014) is modelled on the European comic festivals rather than comic conventions that UK audiences are more familiar with. Guests from the UK and over seas include artist Becky Cloonan and writer Gail Simone; Bone creator Jeff Smith; digital comics guru Scott McCloud; Nick Abadzis, currently working on Titan Comics hugely-successful Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor title; Robbie Morrison and Charlie Adlard, who will be promoting the Image Comics re-release of their stunning wartime tale White Death, which also features as part of an exhibition at Kendal’s Abbot Hall Gallery alongside art from Battle‘s “Charley’s War” by Joe Colquhoun; a number of Phoenix comic artists including Neill Cameron and Gary Northfield running comic creation workshops for young comic fans; ace artists Doug Braithwaite, Mike Collins and Martin Geraghty… and much more! (I’ll be there too, but don’t let that put you off).
“The aim of the weekend-long event is to create an ‘en fete’ atmosphere, making the whole town part of the festival,” says Festival Director Julie Tait. “There will be a much bigger emphasis on the range of talks, special live drawing events, workshops, films, exhibitions and a kids’ zone. Some of the events, including the exhibitions and the kids’ zone will also be free.
“Last year was an amazing success and we are confident this year will be even more incredible.”
