Latest ImagineFX offers Comic Artist guide

Issue 265 of ImagineFX, out now, is fully focused on the world of comic art and creating comics.

Imagine FX 265 Cover by Brett Bean

Inside, cover artist Brett Bean, creator of D’ORC, the hilarious high-fantasy romp from Image Comics, who also shares his thought on how to create stunning covers on a tight deadline. Then there’s a workshop by French artist Ludo Lullabi, teaching you his start to end process for creating a finished comic panel from an initial sketch.

If you want to push your colour work into new realms, then Tony Foti has you covered with his guide to making the most of colour in your art. He’s been a freelance illustrator who’s been working on books, magazines, video games, tabletop games, trading cards and concept art since 2009, so he knows a thing or two!

This issue’s 3D section looks to boost your skills too, with an in-depth look at how you can combine Blender and Photoshop, with insights from Concept Artist and Illustrator Tristan Jolu, as well as the next installment of a foundational series on the basics of 3D.

The ImagineFX are fascinated by artist’s studios and this month they take a tour of a workspace filled with colour, as Argentinian illustrator Gretel Lusky, who lives in the UK, opens her doors. (It’s much tidier than my office!)

Gretel co-created Primer with writer Thomas Krajewski, an original graphic novel published by DC Comics in 2020, and its sequel Primer: Clashing Colors, released in 2024. Since then, Gretel has worked on a variety of projects for publishers including Marvel, Dark Horse, IDW, BOOM! Studios, Dynamite, and Simon & Schuster, as well as promotional campaigns with Netflix, Warner Bros and Paramount. The art book, Wayfinder: The Art of Gretel Lusky, was published by 3dtotal in 2024.

ImagineFX 265 is available now in UK stores and worldwide online. International shops follow soon.

ImagineFX is regularly packed to the rafters with an eclectic mixture of in-depth workshops from the world’s best fantasy and sci-fi artists, plus galleries and interviews, community news and product reviews. Ideal reading, whether you’re a professional artist, an art student or just create art for a hobby offering in-depth digital and traditional art workshops, tips and techniques.
