The latest edition of the superb illustrators magazine from Book Palace, Issue 51, is available now, and if you’re a Mœbius fan, you definitely don’t want to miss it.

Issue 51, available now direct from Book Palace, leads with an interview with Raphaël Giraud, one of the people responsible for Mœbius Production and son of the celebrated comic book illustrator, Jean ‘Mobius Giraud.
After exploring the work of the Mœbius legacy company, touching on future plans for his most famous creation, Arzak, we’re then treated to “Visions and Memories of Mœbius”, with interesting items from a range of artists influenced by his work, including Mark Bodē, Brian Bolland, Dave Gibbons, Das Pastoras, Bob Fingerman, William Stout and Chris Weston, and archive commentary from the late David Taylor.
For me, the range of artists featured in any issue of illustrators is very much part of its appeal, especially when it’s an illustrator whose work I recognise, but whose career I’m unfamiliar with. While I’m aware of the amazing work of the Spanish artist Alfonso Font, featured in this edition, the item on pre-eminent maritime artist Geoff Hunt is informative and, for me, revealing, as is the item on Jean-Léon Gérôme, offering a trip through Greek mythology, Ancient Rome and the Orient.
With extras that include a reprint of the Look and Learn strip, “Horatius Hero of Rome”, illustrated by Arturo del Castillo, and a look at the story behind the creation of one of cinema’s most iconic film posters, Jaws, this edition of illustrators again excels.

John is the founder of downthetubes, launched in 1998. He is a comics and magazine editor, writer, and Press Officer for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He also runs Crucible Comic Press.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine and Overkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics; and has edited several comic collections and graphic novels, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”, and Hancock: The Lad Himself, by Stephen Walsh and Keith Page.
He’s the writer of comics such as Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs”, with Dave Hailwood.
