Leatherhead Library is to host Surrey’s first ever Library Con on Saturday 24th January 2024, offering creator appearances, cosplay, zine and comic workshops, and comics for sale.
Creators in attendance include comic artist, Illustrator and graphic designer Stefan Alexander, Bad Egg Comics, illustrator, art collector, creator of the comic series Bad Egg, Cathy Brett, visual storyteller, illustrator, educator, curator, David Broughton, creator of Shaman Kane, Nick Bryan, writer of comics and prose, Philip Ebrell, who draws bands live, sketches of landscapes, people, and art interests posted as well, Fantom Limb Comix, an illustrated science fiction narrative, indie publisher Guru Comics, House of Harley Press, who produce comics, music and art, Zoey Jenner, Norm Konyu, animator and author of graphic novels, Claudia Matosa, illustration, writing and animation, Alex Moore, illustrator and storyboard artist, Edward Pinsent, small press comics artist, Alison Sampson, comic artist and illustrator, Squidhorse Comics, artist of comics and zines, Mark Stafford, cartoonist in residence at the Cartoon Museum, Lucy Sullivan, Dave Wimblett, creator of The Hoards of Surrey, comic artist and writer, and UwUwizard, arbiter of the vibes, queer inspiration.
Panels include a Question and Answer session with award-winning and nominated comic authors and artists Lucy Sullivan (Barking), Alison Sampson (Winnebago Graveyard, Hellboy) and Cathy Brett (Mrs Thorwald, Who Killed Jojo).
Cathy Brett will also be giving a Masterclass in narrative structure and page design.
The library is situated in The Mansion, a listed building, a few hundred yards outside the town centre heading towards Dorking.
Tickets are £4 each and the event is suitable for ages 12 years and up. All equipment supplied, although attendees are welcome to bring their own materials if preferred.

There is free parking for library users at the front and rear of The Mansion for up to two hours. There are two disabled spaces at the front. There are several pay and display car parks in Leatherhead within easy walking distance of the library. The nearest is behind the Church Hall in Church Road
The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
