LICAF Live, the virtual version of the Lakes International Comic Art Festival running 9th – 11th October 2020, includes a thought-provoking “Thinking Comics” programme that promises a host of lively presentations by some of comics’ leading thinkers.
Comics Laureate Hannah Berry, Elyon’s, Paul Gravett, Bobby Joseph, Pavel Korinek, John McShane, Benoît Peeters and Pierre Lungheretti, courtesy of the French Institute, will offer a series of presentations, covering subjects such as Diversity and Representation in Comics, the Future of Comics, Being an African Artist in Africa, and examinations and celebrations of comics history, some general, some specific.
Presented alongside “A Different View”, a challenging range of virtual exhibitions, the “Thinking Comics” programme aims to challenge, inspire and educate, exploring many fascinating aspects of the “Ninth Art”.
“The comics industry and comic creators face many challenges but also new opportunities at present, notes Festival Director Julie Tait. “Examining what has gone before, what is happening now and what might be yet to come is important, and we’re glad LICAF Live can provide that opportunity.”
“Thinking Comics tries to play with the format of the presentation, adds LICAF Associate Director Richard Foster, “from the challenging and academic, through the encyclopaedic to the enthusiastic and a little bit bonkers. All offer fresh new insights and passionate arguments.”
