A major exhibition of art by top Italian artist Milo Manara begins on 2nd October 2020, at the Rocca dei Rettori in Benevento, will start as part of Italy’s COMICON Extra program.
Milo Manara is a comic book artist and writer with a penchant for the erotic. His work is prized by comic art collectors, and on the International comics scene, he’s regarded as one of the greatest comic artists alive today.
The huge retrospective exhibition Nel Segno di Manara (running 2nd October – 29th November 2020) at the Rocca dei Rectors in Benevento, is part of the “COMICON Extra” program. Included are about 60 to 70 works, divided into seven sections, encompassing both Manara’s comic production and his work as illustrator for print, film and advertising.
The exhibition spans Manara’s entire 50 year career and creator of the erotic, including his latest work, Il Caravaggio, portraits of Brigitte Bardot, and his comics work created with fellow comics luminary, Hugo Pratt. An unmissable event for all fans of the Ninth Art and beyond.
The exhibition is accompanied by the rich catalogue, Nel Segno di Manara, published by COMICON Edizioni, that will presumably be on sale from their web shop, and at the exhibition venue, which traces the long and successful career of the Maestro di Luson through eight sections that ideally follow the structure of the exhibition. In addition to an exhaustive annotated bibliography and a precious chronology of the numerous exhibitions dedicated to Manara in Italy and abroad, the catalogue contains art from two unpublished stories published in France, never published before in Italy.
The Nel Segno di Manara exhibition was created in collaboration with the Province of Benevento and Sannio Europa.
COMICON Extra, of which Nel Segno di Manara is part, is a project to promote the culture of comics throughout Italy’s Campania region. Alongside various online and live activities, it offers a vast program of events and exhibitions, which also include a special Tex exhibition at the Palazzo Fruscione in Salerno, 70 Years of a Myth, open now and running until 18th October 2020.
COMICON Extra is an initiative conceived by COMICON and realized thanks to the contribution of the Campania Region.
