Mental Health Museum hosts print exhibition by comic creator Darryl Cunningham

Wakefield’s Mental Health Museum is hosting a temporary exhibition of prints by comic creator Darryl Cunningham, the author of Psychiatric Tales and other graphic novels.

The art is already done on display, and admission is free, although a donation to the Mental Health Museum charity is suggested.

Darryl Cunningham is the cartoonist/writer of several factual based books that explore subjects as diverse as mental health, science, economics and politics. His work includes Psychiatric Tales (Blank Slate 2010), Science Tales (Myriad Editions 2013), Supercrash: How to Hijack the Global Economy (Myriad Editions 2014), Graphic Science (Myriad Editions 2017), Billionaires: The Lives of the Rich and Powerful (Myriad Editions 2019), and Putin’s Russia: The Rise of a Dictator (Myriad Editions 2021).

He has given talks at the London School of Economics and the City of Arts and Lights, Valencia. In 2015,he was one of 30 world-renowned photographers, painters, sculptors, writers, filmmakers and musicians who were invited to contribute to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Art of Saving a Life project, to promote vaccination in the developing world. In 2018 he was awarded an Honorary Degree of Master of Arts from Leeds Arts University.

The Mental Health Museum is based at Fieldhead Hospital in Wakefield. It’s home to an extraordinary collection of objects, the museum is also a space for broader debates around mental health care history, to promote wellbeing, combat mental health stigma, and be active in social justice.
