Mini “Graphic Brighton” in May as part of Brighton Fringe

A mini Graphic Brighton event is running as part of this year’s Brighton’s Fringe Festival on Saturday 3rd May 2025, with a focus on refugee narratives in comics and animation.

Guests include: Majid Adin, who created an award-winning animation of Elton John’s ‘Rocket Man’, new graphic novel Hamid and Shakespeare, and was imprisoned and politically exiled from Iran; Florian Grosset, whose graphic novel, The Chagos Betrayal recounts poverty and discrimination when Britain enforced US military control of inhabitants’ Indian Ocean home; Karrie Fransman, Creative Director of Positive Negatives, who drew the award-winning comic “Over, Under, Sideways, Down” about an Iranian teenage refugee, for the British Red Cross; and Positive Negative artist Daniel Locke, a widely published, award-winning comic creator and communicator.

The event will be hosted by Alex Fitch and be followed by book signing.

Celebrating the weird, wild and wonderful, Brighton Fringe, which sets out to stimulate, educate and entertain all year round through a diverse range of events, performances and workshops, will run from Friday 2nd May until 1st June. Brighton Fringe welcomes local, national and international performers and audiences as it showcases creativity in Brighton, Hove and beyond. It’s is an open-access festival, meaning that anyone can pay their registration fee, find a venue and put on an event as part of Brighton Fringe.

Brighton Fringe established itself as a limited company and registered charity in October 2005, with its own board of directors and complete financial independence from Brighton Festival.
