My Adventures with Superman lands at Channel 4

Warner Bros. My Adventures with Superman is heading to Channel 4, launching next week, Friday 20th October.

This joyous, anime-styled take on the Superman story is a serialised coming-of-age story that’s earned plenty of praise from fans of the DC Comics character.

Catch up with twenty-somethings Clark Kent (voiced by The Boys star Jack Quaid), the bright and driven Lois Lane (Alice Lee), and their best friend Jimmy Olsen (Ishmel Sahid), as they begin to discover who they are and everything they can accomplish together as an investigative reporting team at the Daily Planet.

The story follows Clark as he builds his secret identity as Superman and explores his own mysterious origins. Lois, on her way to becoming a star reporter, teams up with photographer Jimmy Olsen to break the stories that matter.

All the while, Clark and Lois are falling in love… as Lois gets closer and closer to uncovering his secret identity.

The trio share adventures, take down bad guys, stumble over secrets, and discover what it means to be heroes in their own right.

My Adventures with Superman was created and developed by Jake Wyatt (Steven Universe, 2013 DuckTales) for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim in the United States. Following the release of new episodes on Adult Swim in America, episodes then featured on the Max streaming service.

The series is animated by Korea-based Studio Mir, who previously produced The Boondocks, The Legend of Korra, and the Netflix series, Voltron: Legendary Defender.

Its positive spin has clearly resonated with Superman fans perhaps tired of grim, dark retakes on their favourite comic characters. And that includes some of the voice cast.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, Jack Quaid said he studied comics like All-Star Superman, by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely – a beloved comic series from the late 2000s that depicts its hero as a positive force in the world, and which has also been cited by director James Gunn as a major inspiration for his upcoming film reboot Superman: Legacy.

“I’ve been lucky to be a part of superhero things like The Boys, but what I love about this project is how earnest and sweet it is,” Quaid told EW. “It’s kind of the flip side to The Boys. It’s so honest and so genuine, not snarky in the slightest.”

A second ten-episode season of My Adventures With Superman, which is also available on Prime in the UK, is already in the works. The show’s producer and writer, Josephine Campbell, recently told the fansite Superman Homepage that production work on the next round of episodes is pretty far along.
