Independent British comics publisher The77 Publications is progressing with a major expansion of its line-up in 2022, as the title celebrates two years of busy operations, leading with its flagship anthology title, The77.
The publisher is now expanding its line of titles with a new title, Pandora, and to mark the occasion, the team will be promoting it at at Lawless: A Celebration of British Comics in Bristol (taking place 28th and 29th May 2022).
The publisher is also sponsoring the event, and, of course, will be taking their back catalogue and merchandise along, too.
The77 Publications will also be hosting a special Q&A panel at Lawless, just one event of many lined up for this much respected two-day convention. Tickets are available here.
The77 Publications are also publishing a special commemorative programme, featuring the work of those attending in a unique comic strip! Additional copies will be released for sale with all proceeds going to the events’ named charity, CALM.
The77, the company’s showcase for the hottest new talent and established stars, will continue in 2022, as will BLAZER!, comics writer and former 2000AD editor Steve MacManus‘ comic spoofing the 1970s.
Also in the works is Pandora, a top secret project, launching in June using the same crowdfunding model as The77 and Blazer, with more to be revealed soon; and the debut of SHIFT Presents The77, a bi-annual publication that will be available through both comic shops and newsagents.
From what’s been teased so far, and the title’s name and masthead design, it’s looking like this will draw on the style of popular British girls comics of the 1970s and 80s, just as The77 spoofs, in part, the early days of 2000AD and other boys British weeklies.
The publisher has also announced it has struck a deal with an American publishing company. Expect exciting news soon, as The77 heads Stateside!
“It’s crazy to think how far we’ve come in the past 24 months,” reflects Ben Cullis, CEO The77 Publications. “Issue #1 of The77 launched as a crowdfunded comic in May 2020 at the height of the first lockdown! Since then, we’ve published another six editions as well as The77 Annual No.1 and BLAZER!, Steve MacManus’ first new comic in 30 years!”
