Soaring Penguin Press have kindly sent over some pages from Learn to Speak Cat: Fake Mews by Anthony Smith, available from the independent publisher direct, or your favoured book shop.
Fake Mews is a selection of 100 fan favourite comics from his long-running newspaper series, Learn to Speak Cat, which ran in Metro for five years, now available online via GoComics.
Out now, it’s a great holiday gift for anyone who loves cats – or even people who might need persuading. Be warned, though, certain aspects of these cartoons may be offensive to dogs.
Creator Anthony Smith began his career as a cartoonist, initially working for Marvel UK (first featuring in Mighty World of Marvel #12 in 1984), Knockabout and a host of other publishers, before moving into advertising as a Creative. His first role was at J. Walter Thompson, where he created numerous high profile TV and press campaigns. He went on to work for various other ad agencies, before turning his attention back to cartooning and illustration.
His “Learn to Speak Cat” cartoon ran as a daily feature in the Metro newspaper before been syndicated worldwide through GoComics. He also became a regular contributor to Private Eye, where his “Logos as they should be” appear regularly.
