The Art of the Silver Sun

If you’re a more general fan of Jeff’s work – and we’re sure a lot of downthetubes readers are – then you might also be interested in The Art of Silver Sun, also on preorder, a lavishly illustrated book, a wall-to-wall gallery of artworks, concept sketches and creative collaborations between James Broad (Silver Sun) and Jeff. With anecdotal “behind the scenes” accounts of how these stand out record covers for 1990s powerpop band Silver Sun came to fruition, this book features used and unused ideas, unseen sketches, photos, the final artworks, plus sketches that didn’t make it onto the covers.
Silver Sun came to prominence during the 1990s Britpop scene, bringing an alternative and compelling package to the party, with their break-neck, blistering guitar riffs, melodic three-part harmonies and tantalising lyrics. They bucked the trend with their American styled, three-minute powerpop gems, culminating in the release of their highly acclaimed eponymously titled album Silver Sun (produced by Nigel Godrich) in 1997.
