Bloomsbury has joined forces with BookTrust to mark a very significant date for all Harry Potter fans – 20 years of JK Rowling‘s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – and a special celebratory charity art auction has just a few more hours to run!
This spellbinding third book in the phenomenally successful Harry Potter series introduced readers to the notion of casting their Patronus – a protective spell that manifests as a silvery animal guardian.
To celebrate Bloomsbury and BookTrust have challenged over 20 of the UK’s most talented artists and illustrators to create the own original Patronus characters on an A6 postcards.
The artists are: Dapo Adeola, Steve Antony, Rob Biddulph, Jonny Duddle, Jim Field, Emily Gravett, Mini Grey, Sophy Henn, Yasmeen Ismail, Jim Kay, Neal Layton, Steven Lenton, James Mayhew, Sarah McIntyre, Miraphora Mina, Eduardo Lima, Tom Percival, Liz Pichon, Levi Pinfold, Catherine Rayner, Chris Riddell, Nadia Shireen, Alex T Smith and Rachel Suzanne.
Some have picked fantastical animals like a Phoenix or a dragon, while felines including a lion, a cheetah, a tiger and a domestic cat all make appearances. Both a doe and a stag have been chosen, along with two different breeds of dog (Jack Russell and husky) and birds including an osprey and a peacock. Even animals like otters, aardvarks, moles and hedgehogs are represented.
Prospective purchasers are able to bid for the one-of-a-kind pieces online at BookTrust’s eBay for Charity page and the postcards are being displayed at Waterstones Piccadilly.
BookTrust is the largest children’s reading charity, dedicated to getting children and families reading as they want every child to have the best possible start in life. BookTrust reach children across the UK to develop a love of reading as they believe that all children, no matter what their circumstances, should have access to reading and the books they want to read.
• The auction will close at 6.00pm today, Thursday 18th July 2019, so don’t miss out!
