Macclesfield-based auctioneers Adam Partridge are hosting a “Timed Auction” of artwork by comic artist Bill Mevin and fine artist June Bevan, ending this Sunday, 26th May. If you’re a fan of the Daily Mirror‘s long-running strip “The Perishers“, you do not want to miss this.
Bill Mevin, who passed in 2019, aged 97, is perhaps best known for his work on TV Comic‘s “Doctor Who” strip and his work on later episodes of “The Perishers” with Maurice Dodd for the Daily Mirror. He also worked on various strips for another Polystyle title, Pippin, aimed at younger readers.

Spanning 275 lots, alongside a huge number of “The Perishers” artworks, there are caricature studies by Bill, scrapbooks and more on offer, including original strip art such as “Bugs Bunny“, “Daffy Duck“, “Popeye” and “Sylvester and Tweety Pie” for TV Comic, “Morph“, “Bill and Ben” “The Herbs” and “Parsley the Lion“, for Pippin, his “The Soapremes” daily strip, parodying the US TV series Dallas, Dynasty, and more (not “The Supremes”, as described by the auction house).
Here are just a few examples of what’s on offer in this huge auction…
Missing is any “Doctor Who” (aside from a framed cover of the Doctor Who Classic Comics Bill drew, which looks to be a magazine cover, not art) or “Supercar” work, but you can’t have everything!
The auction also includes a large amount of work by longtime still life and landscape artist June Bevan, a founding member of Bramhall Art Society.
Adam Partridge Auctioneers & Valuers has auction rooms in Cheshire, Liverpool, London and Devon, and Valuation offices in Altrincham, Preston and Torquay. You may also see them on TV.
