Here’s a rare Dan Dare artwork package being offered on eBay – the original, final and rejected artwork produced for the cover of Quality Comics’ 2000AD Presents #21, featuring the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic’s take on the space hero, drawn by American artist Ron Randall.
On offer are both the original cover, and a rejected cover, discarded because the gun was obscuring Dan Dare’s face. Both covers are original artwork and both covers are included in one auction from UK-based seller “Meltdown Man”, who also has the cover art for #22 and #24 featuring Dan Dare for sale, too.
The covers offered are the original inked black and white artwork for the related comics, not a photocopy or a stat.
Quality Comics reprinted a number of British strips in colour aimed at the United States market, including stories from 2000AD.
Ron Randall, best known as the creator of Trekker, has been drawing for as long as he can remember, and has a passion for conveying ideas and story through the blending of words and pictures. Throughout his thirty-plus years of work in comics, storyboards and commercial illustration, his goal has remained to always to put my drawings in the service of clear and compelling communication.
“Whether I’m drawing a superhero racing through time and space, a harried businessman rushing to a client meeting, or a barrista serving the perfect cup, it’s my task to make the situation alive and interesting. And that job never grows old,” he says.
