Rough Cut Comics will collect Jim Alexander’s GoodCopBadCop series into a prestige trade paperback for worldwide release at the end of the year.
The Glasgow-based publisher will re-package the Marvel/DC writer’s off-beat Jekyll and Hyde revision of the Scottish crime drama which has grown into an anthology of stories with artwork from Garry McLaughlin (Year of Fear, Taking flight) Luke Cooper (Wolf Country) and Will Pickering (Burke and Hare, Something Fast).
The new 64-page book GoodCopBadCop: Casebook One will have an introduction by Judge Dredd co-creator John Wagner and a cover designed by Alex Ronald (Vampire Vixens of the Wehrmacht).
The series, created and written by Alexander, follows the violent investigations of Detective Inspector Brian Fisher on Glasgow’s mean streets; a series of dark tales featuring a vile array of murderers and gangsters who, at the mere flick of a hot chip in the throat, can bring out the detective’s monstrous alter-ego, a coal-eyed anti-hero who dispenses his own lethal style of justice.
“It’s a pleasure for Rough Cut Comics to be finally working with Jim, whom I’ve known for more than ten years,” says Publisher Ed Murphy. “I’ve always found his writing to be succinct and it never fails to hit the mark of whatever genre he’s playing in.
“This particular series is a beautifully-crafted concoction that reads like an amalgamation of William McIIvanney and Bill Forsyth… with the visual violence of early Taggart. I think it will be a big attraction for anyone who likes crime and horror.”
Jim’s career has spanned from The Judge Dredd Megazine to stints for DC (Birds of Prey), Marvel (Marvel Milestones) and TokyoPop (Star Trek Manga). He’s also had two strips adapted for TV’s Metal Hurlant Chronicles (The King’s Crown strip he wrote for Richard Corben and the gothic western Whisky in the Jar).
“Eddie, John, Alex, Garry, Luke and Will. It’s a dream team for the stuff of nightmares,” says Jim. “I’m thrilled to see my delightfully twisted take on Tartan Noir get the format and publisher I think it deserves. I guarantee you’ll love this book – or if not I’ll send GoodCopBadCop round!”
In 2013, Rough Cut Comics entered its 12 years as an independent comic-book publisher and has just had a monumental success with the release of The Compulsory Freedom Collective: Volume 1, their Top 300 title which re-imagines a style of Silver Age that might have been released if Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were working in the Soviet Union during the 1960s.
