The Organización del Cómic de Zaragoza has announced an initiative to publish a Tebeíco del Salón special edition in December in time for its annual festival, paying tribute to 2000AD artist Carlos Ezquerra, who died earlier this week – and has put out a call for both written and art homage celebrating his work.
Zaragoza, the capital of northeastern Spain’s Aragon region, was Carlos’ home town, where the annual Salón del Cómic de Zaragoza offers a great celebration of Aragonese comics. It’s considered a cultural event aimed at all audiences, both professionals and amateurs, connoisseurs, curious, collectors or first readers of comics. Since its inception, the event has has grown to become one of the most important comic festivals in Spain.
in 2013, Carlos was the guest star of the Salón del Cómic de Zaragoza and in 2014, he received the Gran Premio de cómic aragonés in recognition of his career.
“On both occasions, fans were impressed by his humanity, his closeness and, above all, for the love he continued to show for his home land,” the organisation noted in a post paying tribute to the co-creator of 2000AD’s Judge Dredd.
For the organisation, there’s no doubt Carlos was an internationally recognised creator who did more than most to help put Zaragoza at the top of the national and international comic map, and like British comic fans they are mourning an “irreparable loss”.
“We are desolated by his passing,” Oscar Senar, who’s responsible for the Aragon Comic Prizes, told downthetubes. “The Salón del Cómic de Zaragoza has decided to make a tribute to Carlos in December, publishing a special issue of Tebeíco, the free magazine of the Salon.
“Artists and writers worldwide are invited to send their homages to Carlos.”
All those interested and interested in contributing to this special Tebeíco del Salón can send the organisation works in digital format (technical details below). It will be published on their website, where you can find all the editions made so far, and a print edition will also be distributed.
All works submitted by 9th November 2018 will be accepted .
