SelfMadeHero, the UK’s independent graphic novel publisher, is making three of its popular titles available to read in a specially-enhanced digital format on the SEQUENTIAL platform for iPad. The books are Kiki de Montparnasse, José-Louis Bocquet’s elegant true-life account of Man Ray’s muse; H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness, atmospherically adapted by I.N.J. Culbard; and the fantastical Sandcastle by Pierre Oscar Lévy and award-winning artist Frederik Peeters. More titles will follow shortly.
In addition to the graphic novel itself, each title includes a number of added features that, like DVD extras, enhance and expand the reading experience by taking a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process. Kiki includes nine pages of exclusive artwork and Sandcastle features an exclusive video of Frederik Peeters drawing.
An audio commentary is provided by I.N.J Culbard for At The Mountains of Madness, which won best graphic novel at the British Fantasy Awards 2011, as well as an exclusive video sketch.
Since it was launched last year, SEQUENTIAL has been working with many of the top independent graphic novel publishers and creators, giving them a chance to reach an expanding global readership through digital technology. Currently its digital releases include titles from publishers such as Jonathan Cape, Blank Slate and Knockabout as well as books by Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Hunt Emerson and Eddie Campbell.
“We’re delighted to be making our first selection of titles available for digital readers through SEQUENTIAL,” enthuses Emma Hayley, founder and publisher of SelfMadeHero. “It marks a significant new phase in SelfMadeHero’s efforts to bring graphic novels to the widest audience possible in this changing landscape of publishing today”.
“SelfMadeHero are one of the most exciting graphic novel publishers in the UK right now,” added SEQUENTIAL founder and Panel Nine publisher, Russell Willis, “and we’re thrilled to be working with them. These three books are a fantastic sample of SelfMadeHero’s innovative, interesting and beautifully created graphic novels, and the SEQUENTIAL versions, with the exclusive expanded features and our gold standard comics software, are the perfect way to experience them’.
All three titles are available now at £9.99 each.
