“The Wolverine” gets UK Blu-Ray, DVD release, offers sneek of “Days of Future Past”

The Wolverine Blu-Ray Edition - UKBritish Marvel fans will be delighted to hear The Wolverine is out next Monday, in a three disc Blu-ray Unleashed Extended Edition, Blu-ray and DVD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment with High Jackman facing his ultimate nemesis in a gripping life-or-death battle that takes him to modern-day Japan.

Directed by James Mangold (Knight and Day, 3:10 to Yuma, Walk The Line), The Wolverine, out Monday 18th November features Hugh Jackman in his best portrayal of the iconic superhero, taking on the threats from ninjas, mutants, and a brand new class of villains, in the first 3D film in the X-Men franchise.

Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his limits, Wolverine confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality; an epic fight that will leave him forever changed.

The film makes full use of the heady atmosphere of present-day Japan –hyper-modern yet full of rituals and ghosts from the past – which is central to the story, and director James Mangold was committed to shooting there right from the start.  Ultimately, the film’s ambitious 80-day shoot would journey between Japan and soundstages at the Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia.

“Japan is like no other country in the world.  The culture, code and personality are unique.  By shooting there, we were able to really get the vision of the landscapes, of the architecture,” says the director.  “And we were also able to capture something not often seen in movies: rural Japan.  We think of Japan mainly as Tokyo or Osaka, but there are some of the most beautiful wild lands and tropical islands in the hinterlands. Both the bustle of the city and the incredible Zen of these beautiful lush forests had a huge effect on us.  The chance to be in these places really inspired the filmmaking.”

The Wolverine Unleashed Extended Edition includes 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray extended cut with director audio commentary, Blu-ray theatrical cut with special features, complete with exclusives that make it a perfect gift.

Each Unleashed Extended Edition comes with the first extended cut of a film in the entire X-Men franchise, and allows viewers to go way behind the scenes of the birth and creation of the darker Wolverine and the journey that he undertakes.

The Wolverine Blu-ray takes fans deeper with an alternate ending and a revealing behind the scenes special feature, “The Path of a Ronin,” which follows the journey of a hero without a past.  The Blu-ray also boasts a sneak peek set tour of X-Men Days of Future Past, due for release in May 2014.  The Wolverine Second Screen app allows viewers to immerse themselves in the Wolverine world, unlocks exclusive videos and enhanced bonus materials and more.
